IMASUS Open Knowledge Platform

The IMASUS Open Knowledge Platform is the digital environment that brings the project’s educational resources, material research, workshop activity, and participant outputs into one accessible space.

It was developed to make the IMASUS knowledge base more than a collection of static files. The platform connects the stakeholder research, material directory, training modules, challenge cards, glossary, workshops, and project publications so that learners, educators, designers, facilitators, and stakeholders can move between knowledge and practice.

The live platform is available at app.imasus.eu.

From prototype to live application

The first deployed version of the platform was a mock-up and demo environment, available at demo.imasus.eu. This prototype helped the consortium gather feedback on the proposed structure, navigation, readability, accessibility, and integration of WP2 outputs before the full application was completed.

Feedback from that phase informed the development of the live open-source application. The current platform includes public knowledge resources, published workshop events, participant projects, and functionality to support workshop-based learning and project documentation.

What the platform brings together

The platform is organised around several connected areas:

  • Materials: a searchable directory of sustainable and innovative textile materials.
  • Training: access to the IMASUS training modules and practical learning resources.
  • Challenges: industry-informed prompts that help participants frame project work.
  • Glossary: supporting terminology for sustainable fashion, materials, and the IMASUS methodology.
  • Workshops: public information about IMASUS workshops and related events.
  • Projects: participant work developed through the workshops and published as public project pages.

This structure supports different user journeys. Public visitors can explore the educational resources openly. Workshop participants can register, join a workshop, create or join projects, document their process, and publish their final work. Facilitators and administrators can manage workshops, participants, and project activity.

Open source and open access

The platform has been built as open-source software. The source code is available on GitHub at Munkun-Estudio/imasus-app.

This matters for the long-term legacy of the project. Open-source publication makes the platform inspectable, maintainable, and reusable beyond the immediate project period. It also supports transparency: the technical implementation of the IMASUS knowledge base can be reviewed, adapted, and extended.

Training modules and reusable formats

The most complete version of the IMASUS training modules is available through the online reader at imasus.eu/training-modules/en/about/.

The modules are published as structured web content with chapter navigation, language switching, and export options. They can be read online, downloaded as PDF for printing and teaching packs, exported as EPUB for offline reading, and exported as Markdown for adaptation and reuse.

This publication approach reflects a broader IMASUS principle: open access should not only mean that resources are free to download, but also that they are practical to search, translate, teach with, cite, adapt, and preserve.

Supporting workshops and participant outputs

The platform was used during the first IMASUS workshop in Spain and is planned for use in the Italy and Greece workshops. In the workshop context, it supports a complete learning and documentation cycle: preparation, resource exploration, challenge selection, project development, process documentation, and publication.

Participant projects and workshop outputs can therefore remain visible after the workshop itself. This helps the project build a shared archive of learning, experimentation, and design responses to sustainable fashion challenges.
